The affected users highlighted on the Apple Community forums and Reddit that while updating to macOS Big Sur, a black screen appeared that eventually bricked the hardware. One of the users said on the Apple Community forums that an engineer was able to boot an impacted MacBook Pro after unplugging its I/O board.“I am not sure how Apple will be dealing with this issue, especially that all affected Macs are out of warranty. And I am not sure if they’ll be able to fix this with a software update since this seems to be a hardware problem that Big Sur somehow caused,” the user wrote.Apple is reportedly aware of the problem as it has been escalated to the Apple support team. However, the company hasn’t yet provided any clarity to users whether it would be able to resolve the issue through a software update. That said, it is safe for the older MacBook Pro users to delay installing macOS Big Sur until the company makes an official response on the bricking problem. Some users last week reported that macOS Big Sur took hours in the download process. However, the massive rush in installing the new software update that could be thanks to the list of its new features impacted users on existing macOS versions as many of them faced delays in app launches. The problem was caused by a certificate issue, where the macOS Gatekeeper service was failing to check the developer certificate of the app. Some researchers claimed that the app slowdowns happened due to a glitch in the system that was allowing macOS to send user data to Apple servers. Apple, however, has now provided some clarity on that issue and said it had never combined data from Gatekeeper’s checks with information about its users or their devices.“We do not use data from these checks to learn what individuals users are launching or running on their devices,” the company said.Apple also mentioned that it’s overhauling the designing of the network request and enabling an opt-out preference for users. These changes, which are to ensure user security and to resist issues like what happened last week, would come into effect over the next year. Will Apple Silicon Lead to Affordable MacBooks in India? We discussed this on Orbital, our weekly technology podcast, which you can subscribe to via Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or RSS, download the episode, or just hit the play button below. Apple brought macOS Big Sur as its next-generation operating system last week. The update carries a list of fresh features for Mac machines. However, macOS Big Sur was also found to include an issue that causes Apple apps to bypass firewalls and virtual private networks (VPNs). This privacy-concerning problem was initially spotted in a macOS Big Sur beta last month. Apple didn’t fix it at the time of bringing the public release, though. Separately, the macOS Big Sur update was reported to some older MacBook Pro models. Apple also responded to the privacy concerns raised by some researchers over its Gatekeeper security feature that caused some hiccups last week.A Twitter user @mxswd initially spotted the firewall bypass issue on the early macOS Big Sur beta last month. The issue was causing the system to bypass firewalls and VPNs when using an Apple app, such as the Apple Maps. It was confirmed by security researcher Patrick Wardle.- Advertisement – “Previously, a comprehensive macOS firewall could be implemented via Network Kernel Extension (kext). Apple deprecated kexts, giving us Network Extensions… but apparently (many of their apps/ daemons bypass this filtering mechanism,” Wardle noted in a tweet. The security researcher found that the Mac App Store on macOS Big Sur was bypassing firewalls. The issues in the beta were detailed by Apple-focussed blog Apple Term.It was at that time presumed that Apple would fix the issue when releasing the Big Sur update to the general public. However, the company didn’t make any changes.- Advertisement – Wardle noted in a tweet posted on Sunday that the issue of bypassing firewalls and VPNs still persisted in the stable release and could be abused by malware and impact user security on the latest macOS version.Apple has yet to comment on the matter. In addition to the issue of bypassing firewalls and VPNs, macOS Big Sur seems to have some problems that are bricking some older MacBook Pro models. As reported MacRumors, several users on the late 2013 and mid-2014 13-inch MacBook Pro models are reporting that the latest macOS update is bricking their machines.- Advertisement – – Advertisement –
The Trojans return to Dedeaux Field this weekend to kick off a promising season with one of the most experienced and skilled teams in recent years, consisting of 19 upperclassmen and seven returning starters.USC hopes to continue the positive trend set last season, in which they narrowly missed the NCAA Regionals and finished with a 29-24 record, the first time the team had finished with a winning record since 2005.Though the Trojans still boast many of their key players from last season, the team lost four players who were instrumental to the team’s success: pitcher Wyatt Strahan, pitcher Bob Wheatley, infielder Kevin Swick and catcher Jake Hernandez.Despite the absence of these impact players, head coach Dan Hubbs, now entering his third year, believes the remaining players’ flexibility in skill and position will allow for those holes in the lineup to be easily filled.“We have some great players, especially on our staff, who are ready to move from bullpen pitchers and step up to fill in the roles of Strahan and Wheatley,” Hubbs said. “We’re confident that with the guys we’ve got stepping into the roles of catcher and other infield positions that the new guys will be just as good as their predecessors, if not better.”To further help assimilate the Trojans into their new roles, many of the players have spent the off-season bonding as a team, discussing fixable problems from last season and seeking advice from their teammates as they transition into new positions or roles within the lineup.Junior pitcher Kyle Twomey, who recorded an ERA of 3.11 in 55 innings pitched during the 2014 season, explained how the Trojans have assisted one another throughout the preseason.“It’s really important that we as a team help one another and give good advice so we’re ready and good to go for the first couple series of the season,” Twomey said. “For example, I was in the bullpen last year, so [junior pitcher] Marc Hubberman talked to me about the seventh and eighth inning role I had last year. That type of communication is really key to getting guys comfortable with what it’s going to be like this weekend when the lights come on and it starts to count.”Hubbs believes the team’s hard work in the preseason will help ensure more consistency and improvement from the 2015 season.“I think the kids came back in the fall with the mindset that they weren’t gonna let anything come up to circumstance or chance or leave it to the hands of the committee to decided whether we go to the playoffs,” Hubbs said. “I think we’ve seen in practice much more intensity in terms of getting things done and making sure we’re ready to win games in a bunch of different ways.”Senior catcher Garrett Stubbs, junior pitchers Kyle Davis and Twomey and sophomore catcher Jeremy Martinez highlight the 2015 squad.Nine freshmen also join the team this season, along with two impact junior college transfers in pitcher Tyler Gilbert and outfielder David Oppenheim.Sizing up the 2015 Trojans in terms of skill and ability, Twomey predicts that pitching will be the team’s greatest strength.“As of right now, we have five guys who can fill a starting role and we’re also going to be pretty strong at the back end of the game relieving wise because there are a couple of guys who are really ready to fill those roles of coming in late and closing games out right,” Twomey said.Hubbs thinks that while pitching and defense up the middle of the field will likely be the team’s greatest strengths, the offensive game will see a great deal of improvement from last year.“I really believe we’re going to see a lot more home runs and doubles with this team,” Hubbs said. “I think we have more team speed offensively, which we didn’t have last year. We should be able to score more runs and run the bases more aggressively, as opposed to last year when we primarily just had to rely on the big hit.”The Trojans open the 2015 season tonight at Dedeaux Field against the Towson Tigers who were 22-25 overall in 2014, but 6-17 on the road. The team is led by head coach Mike Gottlieb and senior shortstop Peter Bowles. This will be the first meeting in series history between the Trojans and the Tigers.Looking forward, the Trojans begin the season with non-Pac- 12 match ups with Cal State Fullerton, Kentucky and Oakland next week.Overall the schedule consists of 24 out of 56 games against 11 different teams that made the 2014 NCAA postseason.Additionally, this year’s schedule includes games against three teams that made the 2014 College World Series, and a nonconference series against 2014 regional team Cal Poly.Despite this season’s difficult schedule, the Trojans feel confident that as long as they execute appropriately, they should start off the season on a high note.“I think especially just the first couple of weeks its important to just play fundamental baseball and keep it clean cut and continue what we’ve been trying to do all fall and spring,” Twomey said. “I think once we get that down well be able to excel as the season moves forward.”

Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson told reporters on Friday that the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri(CJIA) will be in full operation this week.A model of the works initially proposed on the terminalInfrastructure MinisterDavid PattersonHe noted that once a warranty is provided for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system, the airport will be fully operable. However, Patterson explained that while it is necessary to obtain the warranty certificate, the Government will accept it since there is a defect liability period. This means that the contractor will remain liable under the building contract for a certain period after practical completion of his services in this regard.“There is a defect liability period for quite some time, so if anything comes up, they would have to repair it. But it’s just to wait until we get the [warranty from the] manufacturers of the air conditioning system,” he explained. The expansion of the CJIA has been ongoing for a number of years, and while the APNU+AFC Government has repeatedly blamed the former administration for not including necessary plans in the project during the initial stages, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has stated that the absence of those necessary plans is a deliberate strategy to create opportunities for local contractors. He said in May that while several aspects were not included in the contract, the Government should have implemented those that were already there.According to Jagdeo, the Government ought to be held accountable for not doing its part to ensure the contractor, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), delivered what it was contracted to deliver.“Now we’re getting criticised for what’s not in the contract, rather than what was in the contract that this Government has changed; so we now have a rehabilitated terminal, rather than a new terminal, and they reduced the size of the apron,” Jagdeo said. “And we get criticised for what we didn’t put in the contract, but they’re not even achieving what we put in the contract.”Meanwhile, as of January, 2019, CHEC has been paid US$132 million. When payments to the consultant and local contractors are also factored in, that sum rises to US$142 million. Government’s contract with CHEC expired in December of last year.In 2012, under the PPP/C Administration, Guyana secured a US$138 million loan from the China Exim (Export-Import) Bank to fund the expansion and modernisation project, for which the Guyana Government was slated to inject some US$12 million.Nevertheless, millions of dollars had to be pumped into the expansion project after issues started to surface. The Govt had approached the National Assembly for supplementary funding to offset additional expenses that were already incurred. In addition to the additional sums of money, there were several delays in the time set for operation to commence at the main port of entry.Meanwhile, upon completion, the CJIA is expected to have four air passenger boarding bridges for arrivals and departures; a 450-seat departure area; escalators and elevators in addition to an extended runway catering for larger categories of aircraft.

Here’s a trick for overlaying textures, footage or graphics in your video projects when color grading in DaVinci Resolve 9!Professional colorist and editor Juan Salvo shares a trick for creating unique overlays in Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve 9. Sure, you can overlay a texture as a new track in the Resolve timeline, but this can inadvertently cause problems. The sizing may not match the source footage, the overlaid clip wouldn’t be ‘connected’ to the clip below it….just not a very streamlined process.Juan suggests a better way to do this by connecting an overlay clip to your footage as an ‘external fill’ and adjusting the blending mode. The biggest advantage of this seems to be that the overlay is then “attached” to your footage – a better way to keep your Resolve project organized. You can also adjust the size and position of the overlay, grade it separately or quickly enable/disable it.This is a handy feature for adding grain to your footage (as shown in the video example) but would also be useful when working with graphics, flares or other textures. See how it’s done in this DaVinci Resolve video tutorial and be sure to check out Juan fantastic color grading reel below.Juan Salvo is active on Twitter. Yesterday I heard a story about a very popular preacher who came from a tiny, poor shanty town. As this preacher’s popularity grew, he made enough money that he could afford to move out of the small, poverty-stricken place of his birth. But he didn’t leave. When he was asked why he stayed, why he didn’t move to the bigger, nicer, safer place he could now easily afford, he said, “This is where I came from.” It’s a sweet sentiment, but it’s also wrong. It’s not wrong to want serve the people in the community from where you came. It’s also not a bad thing to live beneath your means. But this preacher’s success could have served as an example of what hard work and dedication can do to free you from the circumstance of your birth. His success might have served as an example of what is possible. It could have provided others with a bigger vision of themselves; if he could make it out of the poverty into which he was born so could they. Instead, he served as an example continuing to live in poverty is an acceptable choice. It’s a too small vision, and many more stand to benefit from a bigger vision. There is no shame in the circumstances of your birth. But there is also no shame in escaping those circumstances. It’s not arrogant to be more, to do more, and to have more. It’s arrogant to feel guilty about your success because you believe that others aren’t capable of the same.Your success can leave a path for others to follow. It can serve as an example that you don’t have to accept the circumstances of your birth—that you shouldn’t accept them. Essential Reading!
